This program is offered to support individuals and families who are new to the concept of living life with an ostomy by providing:
- Support, literature, practical advice
- Answers to nonmedical questions
- Reassurance that surgeries can have positive outcomes
- An opportunity to talk about personal fears and concerns with someone who has “been there, done that.”
The program provides a trained and certified group of volunteer, veteran visitors who help persons who have or will have an ostomy. This includes colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy. Family members, caregivers or parents are included.

Your request will be directed to the Program Coordinator. The Coordinator will:
- Call to get information that will help determine which visitors are best suited to your needs (ex, age, gender and type of ostomy).
- Ask if your spouse or significant other may wish to speak with a volunteer visitor about their concerns.
Arrangements will be made to meet either in person/virtually (electronically), by phone or by email.

What is an NSWOC Nurse?
Nurses Specializing in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC) represents over 500 Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence across Canada. NSWOCC advocates for the highest quality of specialized wound, ostomy and continence nursing to individuals requiring wound, ostomy and continence care. A Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) is a registered nurse with advanced and specialized knowledge and clinical skills in wound, ostomy and continence care who has graduated from a World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) recognized education program. Recognized as Nurses who have specialized training in wound, ostomy and continence by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence are the ONLY nursing specialty with CNA certification in wound, ostomy and continence care (WOCC(C)). From acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics, community, long-term care and in independent practice, an NSWOC provides specialized holistic assessment and management as an interprofessional team member to meet the needs of individuals/families with ostomies, acute and chronic wounds and urinary and fecal continence problems.
Canadian Disability Tax Credit (Canada Revenue Agency)

If you wish to request a visit by a Trained Visitor please contact us. Your request will be directed to our program coordinator.
